Process & equipment

Analog and Ink is a mail-in digitizing lab in Ontario, Canada (operating name of Fourground Labs Inc.). This page summarizes what we accept, how capture works, what you receive, and how we handle originals.

Who we serve

We provide nationwide mail-in digitizing across Canada. Customers pack VHS, VHS-C, DVD, and miniDVD media, ship them to our lab, and receive digital files in a private gallery. Hardcover photo books and Cloud Vault storage are optional add-ons.

Media we accept today

Available now: VHS and VHS-C (including camcorder tapes with a VHS-C adapter), DVD, and miniDVD.

Listed as coming soon on the site: MiniDV, Hi8 / Video8, and Betamax. Do not mail formats we have not marked as available.

Analog video capture

Tapes are played on maintained consumer/prosumer decks. Capture includes timebase correction (TBC) where needed to stabilize timing from aging VHS and VHS-C recordings.

We digitize picture and sound carefully, but aging media can fail. Picture and sound quality depend on the original recording, tape condition, and format limits—we do not claim studio-master results for every tape.

Optical disc extraction

Finalized DVD and miniDVD discs are ingested with optical drives. We extract the playable video content for digital archiving. Unfinalized, scratched, or unreadable discs may not yield a file.

Digital formats & delivery

After capture, original videos and stills are uploaded to your private gallery. Files are delivered in modern, widely compatible lossy formats suitable for viewing, download, and album printing—not as archival lossless masters unless separately arranged.

Gallery access is account-based. Collections can be shared by invitation. Included gallery retention is time-limited; Cloud Vault extends storage for a monthly fee.

Hardcover photo books

Optional custom hardcover albums use a 4:3 grid layout built from stills in your gallery. You choose size and page count; extra pages are billed before print. Albums are produced through our print partner after you approve the layout.

Security & handling

Orders and gallery access use authenticated accounts and time-limited share links. We do not sell personal information. Media is handled for fulfillment and return only.

Title to physical tapes and discs stays with you. After capture we ship originals back to the address on the order unless you instruct us in writing to recycle them.

Shipping & packing

You pack and mail originals at your own cost using your own packaging and must follow the packing guide sent after payment. Return shipping for originals is included in the order flow as quoted.

Damaged, mouldy, snapped, or incompatible media may be returned without a digital file. Conversion charges for items we cannot convert may be refunded minus fees already incurred (payment processing, handling, shipping).
